This year’s Global Azure Bootcamp went virtual due to COVID-19. It was different, but the spirit of community learning remained strong.
A New Format
Instead of gathering in Letterkenny, we joined thousands online. The LK MUG contributed sessions to the global stream while hosting our own virtual track.
My Session: Azure DevOps Pipelines
I presented on modern CI/CD with Azure DevOps YAML pipelines:
- Multi-stage deployments
- Environment approvals and gates
- Pipeline templates for reuse
- Integration with Azure resources
Remote Presenter Tips
Presenting virtually taught me a lot:
- Test audio/video setup in advance
- Have backup internet (mobile hotspot)
- Keep engagement high with polls and Q&A
- Pre-record demos as backup
Silver Lining
Going virtual actually increased accessibility. People who couldn’t travel joined from around the world. Perhaps hybrid events are the future?
