Azure DevOps Community Launch Event – LK MUG January 2019

Last week I had the privilege of organizing and presenting at the Azure DevOps Community Launch event with the Letterkenny Microsoft User Group (LK MUG). It was fantastic to see so many developers from the Northwest Ireland region come together to explore what’s new in Azure DevOps.

What We Covered

The rebranding from VSTS to Azure DevOps brought more than just a name change. We walked through:

  • Azure Boards: Improved work item tracking with better agile tools
  • Azure Repos: Git repos with pull request workflows
  • Azure Pipelines: The star of the show – free CI/CD for open source!
  • Azure Artifacts: Package management for NuGet, npm, Maven
  • Azure Test Plans: Manual and exploratory testing

Live Demo Highlights

The crowd particularly enjoyed the multi-stage YAML pipeline demo. Seeing code go from commit to production with gates, approvals, and environment-specific variables really clicked for people who were still using classic release pipelines.

Community Matters

Events like this remind me why I love the developer community. Questions ranged from “how do I migrate from Jenkins?” to “can I use this for my Raspberry Pi project?” The energy in the room was incredible.

Thanks to everyone who attended, and to the LK MUG organizers for making it happen. Looking forward to more events in 2019!
